Drainage Fault

One of the most common causes. If the pump filter is blocked or the drain hose is kinked, the machine cannot drain during the cycle and will stop. Check for water remaining in the drum — if present, a drainage fault is the likely cause.

Unbalanced Load

During spin, a heavily unbalanced load can cause the machine to stop and attempt to redistribute the laundry. If it cannot balance the load it will abandon the spin cycle entirely.

Overheating

If the machine overheats — for example due to a faulty thermostat or a blocked filter on a washer-dryer — it will stop mid-cycle as a safety precaution to prevent damage.

Door Fault

If the door lock loses contact during a cycle, the machine will stop immediately as a safety measure. This can be caused by a faulty door interlock or a door that is not fully latched.

Water Supply Issue

If the water supply is interrupted or the inlet valve cannot fill the machine to the required level during the cycle, the programme will stop and usually display a fill-related error code.

Power Supply Interruption

A brief power cut or voltage fluctuation can cause the machine to stop mid-cycle. The machine may resume when power is restored or may need to be manually restarted.

Faulty Control Board

A fault with the main control board can cause the machine to stop unpredictably at any point in the cycle. This requires professional diagnosis as it is an internal electronic component.

Check for an Error Code

Note any error code on the display and select your brand below to identify the specific fault. The error code is the fastest way to narrow down the cause.

Clean the Pump Filter

The pump filter is behind a small panel at the bottom front of the machine. Place towels beneath it before opening. Twist anticlockwise to remove, clear any debris, rinse, and refit securely by twisting clockwise.

Check the Water Supply

Ensure the water supply tap is fully open and the inlet hose is not kinked or crushed behind the machine.

Redistribute the Load

Open the door, rearrange the laundry evenly around the drum and try restarting the programme. An unbalanced load is a common cause of mid-cycle stops during spin.

Reset the Machine

Switch off at the mains and leave unplugged for a few minutes. Plug back in and try restarting the cycle. This can clear temporary electronic faults that caused the mid-cycle stop.
