Samsung Error Code 4C / 4E / nF — water supply problem

Why Is My Samsung Washing Machine Not Filling With Water?

When a Samsung washing machine fails to fill, the cycle cannot start or progress correctly. Samsung machines display 4C, 4E or nF when a water supply fault is detected. These codes indicate the machine is not receiving water at the required rate. Before investigating further, check whether an error code is showing on the display.

Common Causes

Water supply tap turned off or not fully open
The most common cause. The tap supplying the washing machine must be fully open. It is usually located behind or beneath the machine.

Kinked or blocked inlet hose
If the water inlet hose is kinked or blocked, water cannot flow into the machine freely.

Blocked inlet filter
A small mesh filter at the water inlet valve connection can become clogged with debris and restrict water flow. This is a very common cause of 4C and 4E errors on Samsung machines.

Low water pressure
If household water pressure is unusually low, the machine may not be able to fill at the required rate and will eventually stop and display 4C or 4E.

Faulty water inlet valve
If the inlet valve has failed, water will not enter the machine even if the supply is fully open.

Checks To Try Before Calling An Engineer

Check the water supply tap
Ensure the tap on the supply pipe behind or beneath the machine is fully open.

Check the inlet hose
Inspect the water inlet hose for any kinks or crushing and straighten if necessary.

Clean the inlet filter
Turn off the water supply. Disconnect the inlet hose from the back of the machine. Remove the small mesh filter from the inlet connection, rinse under running water and refit before reconnecting the hose. This resolves a large number of 4C and 4E errors.

Reset the machine
Switch off at the mains and leave unplugged for a few minutes. Plug back in and restart the cycle.

When To Contact A Professional

If the fault persists after checking the supply, hose and filter, the water inlet valve is likely faulty and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified engineer. Internal components should only be inspected or repaired by trained professionals.
