Why Is My Siemens Dishwasher Not Draining?
A dishwasher that fails to drain will leave standing water in the bottom of the machine. The most common cause is a blocked filter, a kinked drain hose or a blocked drain pump.
Common Causes
Blocked filter
The most common cause. The dishwasher filter at the bottom of the machine collects food debris. If it becomes clogged it will prevent water from draining. The filter should be cleaned regularly.
Kinked or blocked drain hose
A kinked, crushed or blocked drain hose will prevent water from draining away. Check the hose at the back of the machine.
Blocked drain pump
Food debris, glass fragments or other objects can block the drain pump impeller, preventing it from pumping water out.
Blocked sink or drain connection
If the dishwasher drains into a sink waste, check the sink is not blocked and the connection point is clear.
Faulty drain pump
If the pump motor has failed, water will not be pumped out regardless of whether the filter and hose are clear.
Checks To Try Before Calling An Engineer
Clean the filter
Remove the filter from the bottom of the dishwasher and rinse it under running water. Remove all food debris.
Check the drain hose
Inspect the drain hose at the back of the machine for kinks or blockages. Ensure it is not pushed too far into the standpipe.
Check the drain pump area
Remove the filter and check the pump housing beneath it for debris or foreign objects.
Check the sink connection
If the drain hose connects to the sink waste, ensure the sink is draining freely.
Reset the machine
Switch off at the mains, unplug for a few minutes, then try again.
