How To Clean a Tumble Dryer

Clean the Lint Filter — After Every Use

Open the dryer door and remove the lint filter. Peel away accumulated lint by hand and replace before the next cycle. A blocked filter reduces drying performance and increases energy use significantly.

Wash the Lint Filter — Every Few Weeks

Rinse the lint filter under warm running water to remove fine residue built up through the mesh. Allow it to dry completely before replacing it in the machine.

Clean the Drum

Wipe the inside of the drum with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use a small amount of washing up liquid, then rinse and run the machine empty for a short cycle to dry it fully before use.

Clean the Condenser Unit (condenser dryers only)

Remove the condenser from the panel at the front of the machine. Rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. Allow to dry fully before replacing. Check your manual for the recommended cleaning frequency.

Empty the Water Tank (condenser dryers only)

Empty the water tank after every cycle or when the machine indicates it is full. Rinse periodically to prevent residue and odour from developing inside the tank.

Check the Vent Hose (vented dryers only)

Disconnect the vent hose and check for lint blockages. Ensure the external vent opening is clear and unobstructed. A blocked vent hose is a significant fire risk and must be addressed immediately.

Wipe Down the Exterior

Wipe the outside of the machine, door glass, and control panel with a damp cloth. Keep the area around the dryer clear to ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance at all times.
