Samsung Error Code LC / LE — leak detected or water level sensor fault

Why Is My Samsung Washing Machine Leaking?

A leaking Samsung washing machine can have several causes. If LC or LE is displayed, the machine has detected moisture where it shouldn’t be. The location of the leak — front, back, underneath or from the detergent drawer — will help narrow down the source.

Common Causes

Worn or damaged door seal
The most common cause of a front leak. The rubber door seal can crack, tear or accumulate debris over time, allowing water to escape around the door during the cycle. Inspect the seal carefully for any visible damage or foreign objects lodged in the folds.

Too much detergent or wrong detergent type
Samsung machines are sensitive to detergent quantity. Using too much detergent or non-HE detergent causes excessive foam which can leak from the detergent drawer or door seal area.

Loose or damaged inlet hose
If the machine is leaking from the back, check the water inlet hose connections at both the wall and the machine. A loose or cracked hose will drip or spray water during filling.

Drain hose not secured correctly
Samsung machines have a screw-mounted clamp holding the drain hose to the back of the machine. If this has been removed, the machine can drain automatically and cause leaks. Ensure the drain hose is properly secured.

Blocked or loose pump filter
If the pump filter cover at the bottom front of the machine is not seated correctly after cleaning, water can escape from underneath the machine.

Leak sensor triggered (LC/LE)
If LC or LE is displayed, moisture has been detected inside the machine. Check all hoses and the door seal for signs of a leak before calling an engineer.

Checks To Try Before Calling An Engineer

Inspect the door seal
Check the rubber door seal all the way around for cracks, tears or debris. Even a small piece of thread or hair caught in the seal can cause a drip. Clean the seal thoroughly.

Check detergent quantity
Ensure you are using HE detergent in the correct quantity. Run an empty cycle — if suds appear, residue from excess detergent is causing the leak.

Check hose connections
Ensure the inlet and drain hoses are firmly connected at both ends. Check the hoses for cracks or splits. Ensure the drain hose clamp on the back of the machine is secure.

Check the pump filter
Ensure the pump filter cover at the bottom front of the machine is fully tightened and correctly seated.

Reset the machine
Switch off at the mains and leave unplugged for a few minutes. Plug back in and run a short cycle while watching to identify exactly where the water is coming from.

When To Contact A Professional

If you cannot identify the source of the leak or the leak is coming from inside the machine, a qualified engineer should be called to inspect the drum seal, bearings and internal components. Do not continue to run the machine if it is leaking as water near electrical components can be dangerous.
