Bosch Error Code E23 / F23 — leak detected / AquaStop system triggered

Why Is My Bosch Washing Machine Leaking?

A leaking Bosch washing machine can have several causes. If E23 or F23 is displayed, the machine’s AquaStop leak protection system has been triggered — this means water has entered the base tray and the machine has shut down as a safety precaution. Turn off the water supply tap immediately and unplug the machine before investigating further.

Common Causes

Worn or damaged door seal
The most common cause of a front leak. The rubber door seal can crack, tear or accumulate debris over time, allowing water to escape around the door during the cycle.

AquaStop triggered (E23/F23)
If E23 or F23 is showing, water has leaked into the machine’s base tray and triggered the safety float switch. The source of the leak must be identified and resolved before the machine can be used again. Carefully tilting the machine back at a 45-degree angle will allow water to drain from the base tray.

Loose or damaged inlet hose
If the machine is leaking from the back, check the water inlet hose connections at both the wall and the machine. A loose or cracked hose will drip or spray water during filling.

Loose or damaged drain hose
A drain hose that is not secured properly or has cracked can leak during the pump-out phase of the cycle.

Blocked or loose pump filter
If the pump filter cover at the bottom right of the machine is not seated correctly after cleaning, water can escape from underneath the machine.

Detergent drawer overfilled or blocked
Using too much detergent or a blocked detergent drawer can cause water and foam to overflow from the drawer area and run down the front of the machine.

Checks To Try Before Calling An Engineer

If E23/F23 is displayed — turn off the water supply immediately
Unplug the machine. Carefully tilt the machine back at 45 degrees to allow water to drain from the base tray. Stand it upright, plug back in and identify the source of the leak before using the machine again.

Inspect the door seal
Check the rubber door seal all the way around for cracks, tears or debris. Clean the seal thoroughly.

Check hose connections
Ensure the inlet and drain hoses are firmly connected at both ends. Check the hoses for cracks or splits.

Check the pump filter
Ensure the pump filter cover at the bottom right of the machine is fully tightened and correctly seated.

Check the detergent drawer
Remove and clean the detergent drawer. Use the correct amount of detergent.

When To Contact A Professional

If you cannot identify the source of the leak, or if E23/F23 returns after clearing the base tray, the internal hoses, pump or drum seal are likely faulty and will need professional diagnosis. Do not continue to run the machine if it is leaking as water near electrical components can be dangerous.
