Miele Fault Codes Related To Spinning
If your Miele washing machine is displaying a fault code alongside the spin fault, use the links below to find out what it means.
Miele Fault Code F11 — drain restricted preventing spin
Miele Fault Code F37 — machine not aligned correctly or not level
Miele Fault Code F50 — drive fault
Miele Fault Code F53 — speed sensor fault
Miele Fault Code F56 — final spin speed below 400rpm
Why Is My Miele Washing Machine Not Spinning?
When a Miele washing machine fails to spin, the laundry is left saturated with water at the end of the cycle. The machine may display F56 if it is reaching some spin speed but not the required level, or F37 if the machine is not level and is detecting excessive vibration. Check the display for any fault codes before investigating further.
Common Causes
Unbalanced load
The most common cause. If laundry is bunched together on one side of the drum, the machine will detect excessive vibration and reduce or cancel the spin to protect itself.
Machine not level
Miele displays F37 when the machine is not correctly aligned. If the machine is not sitting level on all four feet it can cancel or reduce the spin cycle. Check all four feet are in firm contact with the floor.
Drainage fault
A Miele washing machine will not spin if it cannot drain the water first. If F11 is displayed, check the pump filter and drain hose.
Overloaded drum
An overloaded drum prevents the laundry from moving freely, which can prevent the machine from reaching the required spin speed.
Drive or motor fault
If F50 or F53 is displayed, there is a fault with the drive system or speed sensor that will require professional attention.
Checks To Try Before Calling An Engineer
Redistribute the load
Open the door and rearrange the laundry evenly around the drum. Select a spin-only programme and try again.
Check the machine is level
Use a spirit level on top of the machine and adjust the levelling feet as needed until the machine is sitting level on all four feet.
Clean the pump filter
Located behind a small cover panel at the bottom front of the machine. Place towels beneath it before opening. Twist anticlockwise to remove, clear any debris and refit securely.
Reset the machine
Switch off at the mains and leave unplugged for at least 2 minutes. Plug back in and try a spin-only programme.

When To Contact A Professional
If the machine still fails to spin after the above checks, the fault is likely mechanical or electrical and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified engineer. Internal components should only be inspected or repaired by trained professionals.
